CMF teams on each field seek to be holistic in their approach of drawing people to Jesus Christ and His Church . One strategy used is Community Health Evangelism (CHE), which seeks to transform individual lives physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually that will also bring change to the community. The primary goal of CHE is to teach people how to do things for them-selves with the resources they have, integrating physical and spiritual ministries. Equipping of nationals through learner-centered, participatory training and multiplication are key elements in CHE.
CMF ministries among the poorer people in the cites help them experience economic, physical, social and most importantly, spiritual transformation.
CMF seeks to minister to the whole person no matter what the economic status. Our vision is to establish holistic ministries that intentionally address the critical needs of the poor in strategic urban centers throughout the world. We desire to help the poorer people in the cities experience economic, physical, social, and most importantly, spiritual transformation.
Currently, CMF has urban poor ministries in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Pachuca (Mexico), Arusha (Tanzania), and Nairobi (Kenya), as well as one family serving as missionaries-at -large for our teams and others. Our primary ministry approach among the urban poor is through Community Health Evangelism (CHE). Through CHE, our missionaries train and empower local people to participate in their own and their community's transformation. It means helping the poor see who God intended them to be, helping them identify their major problems in life, and helping them find their own local God-given solutions. Our teams use vocational training , microenterprise, nationals trained in health and evangelism, and partnership with local churches as resources.
CHE often includes instruction on hygiene, clean water, safe cooking, latrines, health care and other basic life issues. Communities are also instructed on HIV/AIDS prevention and care. Microenterprise provides opportunity to encourage income generating activities for the poor, sometimes in partnership with a local church. Vocational training enables individuals to learn skills that will enable them to be gainfully employed. CHE outreach is committed to mature Christian leadership as programs are oriented toward reaching non-Christians and focused on evangelism, follow-up, and discipleship.
CMF used CHE among rural and urban settings. Among the urban poor, our teams have found the CHE principles effective in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and Nairobi Kenya. Research is ongoing on using these methods in urban centers in Latin America and Asia as well. CMF teams use CHE among rural people, such as the Gumuz of western Ethiopia, and Agni and Attie.
